Fort Stevens State Park Historic Area, Military Museum, and Gift Shop Hours

The Historic Area, Military Museum, and the Gift Shop are open at 10:00 AM seven days a week. Guided tours are available during the summer tourist season. Visitors are free to explore the concrete batteries and to check out the progress on the reconstruction of the Battery Pratt gun carriage. The gun tube and breech is already there for your inspection. This is a-one-of-a kind project in the nation, maybe the whole world!!! Watch for announcements of special events.

The Fort Stevens State Park Military Museum is open seven days a week from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

2008 Fort Stevens Events

(All cars entering the Fort Stevens State Park Historic Area need to purchase an Oregon Parks day-use ticket. Beginning in 2010 the day use fee will be $5.00. Annual day use permits are sold in the Military Museum's interpretative store.)

All events are dedicated to the memory of the men and women who defended our nation from those who owould take away our freedom.


All The Events Take Place Within Fort Stevens State Park, Hammond, Oregon.

  • May 29 & 30: Memorial Day Weekend. Celebrating Freedom, Celebrating Veterans. Follow the Old Soldiers Trail map. This is a great family activity. OREGON PARKS DAY USE FEE WILL BE COLLECTED FOR THIS EVENT.
  • June 20 & 21: At noon on June 21, a short ceremony to commemorate the 68th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Fort Stevens will take place at the Pacific Rim Peace Memorial located at Battery Russell, Fort Stevens State Park. An interpreter will be on duty from noon until 5:00 PM on both June 20 & 21.
  • July 17 & 18: PUBLIC NOTICE
    Due To Recent Changes In State Of Oregon Liability Insurance Requirements, The World War II Reenactment Scheduled For July 17- 18, At The Fort Stevens State Park Historic Site Has Been Canceled. A World War II Living History Event Will Take Its Place On July 17-18. This Event Will Include Military Vehicles, Displays, And Demonstrations. This Will Be A Great Family Event. There will be NO BATTLE REENACTMENTS. There Will Be No Event Admission, However The Normal Park Day Use Fee Will Apply. For Questions, Call (503) 861-1470. Sponsored By Friends Of Old Fort Stevens & Fort Stevens State Park.
  • September 4, 5, & 6: Annual Labor Day weekend Civil War Reenactment. This event is well known throughout the region for its realistic battle reenactments and Civil War era encampments. Much attention is given to details which visitors always find fascinating. The educational value of this event is amazing. Visitors will come away with a renewed appreciation for what it took to make ours a strong nation. Battles will take place on each day. THERE IS AN ADMISSION FEE FOR THIS EVENT.
  • September 18. On this date the annual Friends Of Old Fort Stevens membership picnic will take place at noon at the Fort Stevens State Park Historic Site.

NOTE: Admission fees support the restoration of one of Battery Pratt’s 6-inch disappearing guns. This is a one-of-a-kind project. These guns were defensive weapons designed to protect American harbors from enemy attack and invasion. Visitors can view a rare working model of a disappearing gun in the Fort Stevens State Park Military Museum.
